What if the world was to dump the American Dollar?
China called for the creation of a new currency to eventually replace the dollar as the world's standard, proposing a sweeping overhaul of global finance that reflects developing nations' growing unhappiness with the U.S. role in the world economy.
But around here in little old Rhea County, we shouldn't have to bother ourselves with what China does, right? I mean after all, what is China to us? What does China do for us? So, why the need to even post any sort of commentary about some place with over one billion chinese peasants in it?
Then again, where 20 years ago most chinese people were content with cruising around in a cool straw hat on a bicycle they now have evolved into a super power. They have dumped their bicycles and bought cars. China now not only "MANUFACTURES" things and sell world-wide, they pretty much make everything the world relies on. Imagine if you will a world where if you woke up tomorrow you found that China was on strike. All of China said we refuse to make and sell anything to the United States. What then?
Where would WalMart be? What about the trusty Dollar General stores? Would their new jingle then be "eveyday's a Yuan day at the Yuan General store".
So, if China decided that they wanted every single pennie the United States owed them, even that $300 billion we borrowed just to invade Iraq, what then?
If we couldn't pay our debt could China then foreclose and repossess the collateral? Why not, banks do it everyday. Will not an American bank foreclose on you and if you resisted they would have a judge sign a paper where the sheriff would then come to your home with a squad of deputies and throw you out at gun point? Sure they would. It happens everyday folks.
Would half the state of Tennessee become a suburb of China? Could the chinese send in their vast (and I do mean vast) armies to take what is owed them? Would we then tell our worn out troops something like, "hey fellows, I really hate to bother you but we need you guys to stop fighting all the mideasterners and all those goat herders in those mountains over there in Afghanistan and come on back over and fight the entire Chinese military forces". Geeez, what a terrible thought.
But could such a day ever happen?
If so, the entire country may be screwed far beyond what it is today. But as a small rural county that has become dependent upon federal and state grants just to squeak by, what would WE do here in Rhea County? Who is going to protect us? Some sheriff that is a "nice guy" or Billy Ray Patton? Just who is going to protect us then?
Perhaps Bob Vincent can dawn a super suit of spandex with a cape and fly the skies as the father-protector of Dayton. Hey, now that would be a cool sight to see wouldn't it? "Look ma, up in the sky. It's a featherless bald eagle. No, it's a flying auditorium. No wait, it's, it's a bald, beardless Papa Smurf in a spandex suit holding his Blackberry super sabre weapon". Would the mayor that contrary to what he thinks, hasn't a single ounce of authority than any other council member want his name engraved on a welcome sign then?
The simple truth of the matter is this entire nation has become dependent upon someone else (China) to do things for us. Just as Dayton, Rhea County and even the state of Tennessee has become dependent upon someone or something else to do things for us. But if or when such a day comes, police will have a job. China will see to it that THEY get paid to keep us herded together, controlled and in line. As for Bob Vincent and the rest of those that made a good living off the taxpapyer, well my bet is they have enough dollars to convert over into some other currency absorb the loss and still have plenty left over to live great. They can and will relocate elsewhere without so much of a thank you or good bye. Just as the rich dudes did on the Maylower years ago. Just the rich guys and the slaves that carried their valuables.
We all should remember these things and not pretend bad things will never happen. To think in such ways then we may as well tear the entire Book of Revelation out of the Bible. Why not, its had many other Books torn out of it over the years. Can I get a witness?
