To file a complaint against an attorney at law is a very simple, yet powerful tool you can
use against an attorney who has wronged you in some way. If you know of a corrupt or
otherwise "bad" lawyer, attack their State Bar Law License.
There are a host of things that can warrant the filing of a complaint.
To file a complaint against a lawyer, you must first fill a complaint form out and mail it
to the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Supreme Court of Tennessee. You can
click here and download the 1 page complaint form. Very easy to do.
If you feel that a lawyer has screwed you over in some way, do not sit back and think for
a second that there is nothing you can do about it. The best way to attack anything is
directly at it's source. For example, it is all but impossible to do anything at all against a
judge because a judge enjoys "absolute immunity".
Yep, a judge can pretty much do anything he/she wants to do INSIDE their court room.
However, if you happen upon a judge who you think is verbally abusive, loud mouthed,
unprofessional or a host of other activities that makes you wonder "just how in the
heck is this dude even a judge", then you still have hope.
Since it is all but impossible to try to have a judge removed from the bench there are
still a couple things you can do. First of all, a judge can not sit as a judge over anything
if he/she is NOT an attorney. A judge is required by law to FIRST be an attorney at law
in good standing with the Tennessee Supreme Court. With that in mind, go after the law
license. Remember, no law license, no judge job.
The question however was directed against "lawyers" and not "judges". But in a way,
every lawyer, judge and prosecutor and public defender in this state are "members of
the exact same club". So good luck tyring to get one to go against the other. A prime
example as to WHY you should learn to do these sorts of things for yourself.
Also, a judge who is elected can be ousted from office. Since this question did not pose
the question on how to ouster a judge but instead how to file a complaint against a
crooked lawyer, I will address an ouster later on down the line.
